The Scene, featuring work from Chinese-Canadian artist
Yong Fei Guan.
塑胶狮 Sujiao Shi, Yong Fei Guan’s pair of sculptures were made in response to two recent events: the City of Edmonton’s 2017 decision to remove two Chinese guardian lions that flanked the Harbin Gate, and China’s 2018 announcement that it would no longer accept most plastic recyclables from other countries. Yong Fei Guan’s lions are made entirely from household plastic waste, and memorialize the displacement of a local monument while commenting on the global waste crisis.
