DEHRADUN: A CBI special court in Dehradun on Monday convicted a Lt Colonel and an assistant garrison engineer-rank official in a five-year-old bribery case and sentenced them to 10 years and 5 years of rigorous imprisonment, respectively. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on the Lt Colonel and Rs 15,000 on the other official, reports Gaurav Talwar.
Lt Colonel Bharat Joshi, who was then posted in Instruments Research and Development Establishment (IRDE) in Dehradun as garrison engineer, was arrested by CBI on July 8, 2016 while taking bribe from a private contractor, according to prosecution lawyer Satish Kumar.

While delivering judgement in the matter on Monday, CBI judge Sujata Singh imposed a fine of ₹55,000 on Lt. Col. Bharat Joshi while Manish Singh was fined ₹15,000. Lt. Colonel Joshi, who was at that time working as a garrison engineer in the Military Engineering Services, demanding a bribe of ₹38,000 from a contractor for clearing his bills.
Hubballi division of SWR operate Solapur-Dharwad Passenger with all-woman crew on International Women’s Day
While various organisations and government agencies organised programmes in Hubballi Dharwad to celebrate International Women’s Day, the Hubballi division of South Western Railway ran a train with ‘all-woman staff on board’ between the twin cities on Monday.
After SWR general manager Ajay Kumar Singh and president of SWR Women’s Welfare Organisation (SWRWWO) Sujata Singh flagged off the Solapur-Dharwad Passenger (07321). While the woman locopilots drove the train, the guard, ticket examiners, RPF security personnel on board discharged their duties.
Mr. Ajay Singh and Ms. Sujata Singh felicitated the women serving as station masters, pointswoman, travelling ticket examiners, RPF, booking clerks, reservation clerks, carriage and wagon mechanic, trackwoman, signal technicians, loco shed’s repair staff, loco pilots and guards.

The broad gauge line of Talaguppa-Birur section of Mysuru Division of South Western Railway was inspected by SWR General Manager A.K. Singh on Friday.
A release said the focus of the annual inspection was on the operational safety of the section. Major and minor stations including Talaguppa, Sagara Jambagaru, Arsalu, Shivamogga Town, and Birur were inspected after which there as a review of the performance of the Division.
The team inspected sanitation, water supply, waiting rooms, refreshment rooms, retiring rooms, booking offices, Running Room, Route Relay Interlocking cabins, crew lobby etc at the railway stations besides railway quarters.
