The fires in the north bay have been relentlessly destroying homes, businesses and lives. This morning, at about 6 45, firefighters were called to aid one of the helpers working the nuns fire. Cal fire says a private water tender driver was heading down oakville grade road, about two miles west of highway 29 in napa county, when the vehicle slid off the side of the embankment and flipped over on to its top. This morning, we tragically lost a member of our Fire Fighting community. Reporter cal fire says they dont know why the driver went off the road, but they will look into the possibility fatigue was a factor. Damage in Sonoma County alone could top 3 billion. The largest fire is the atlas fire, it grie by 7acres overnight. Containment went up from 65 to 68 . The nuns fire has burned through 48,000acres some its 47 contained. The tubbs fire in calistoga has burned 45,000acres and its 60 contained. 20 of the fire deaths happened in Sonoma County, the coroner identified four more victims including sharon robinson. Burning southwest of saratoga and los gatos and north of ben lowman. We want to look at where that fire started. The flames sprung up overnight at deer creek road and bear creek road. We have people calling into the news room. Evacuees are gathering at Boulder Creek Elementary School. We did talk with the School District leader. They are ready for as many people as need to arrive there. At this point, they have 1015 people there. Those mandatory evacuation orders are affecting more than 100 people. All of them had to leave their homes in the middle of the night. Firefighters are telling people whose homes are not under the mandatory evacuation orders to leave if they feel they are in danger. If you see smoke or flames, dont be told to get out. The Elementary School is the designated shelter. A friend came, too. He said the sheriff is here. I didnt do anything wrong, honest. We are here at bear creek road and highway 35. We saw two pickup trucks leaving with animals. I assume they are evacuating. A lady came by with animals. She e vk waited. She saw it and didnt want to have to deal with that. She is probably making the right decision. The areas that are evacuated, im going list off roads. Deer creek road, rons road, dons road, lost valley and favor ridge and oak ridge. The Santa Cruz County sent reverse 911 calls to people who live in the evacuation zones. You should have received those calls. Even in the evacuation zone, if you dont want to be down there and feel like you are in danger, leave the area if its safe to do so. Cal fire is calling this fire the bear fire. They are doing it as bearfire, if you are on twitter and want to follow the latest updates. The Evacuation Center is Boulder Creek elementary.
