Sini has announced the sentencing of a Middle Island man to prison for attempted aggravated assault on a police officer for shooting at a Suffolk County Police officer following a motor vehicle crash in December 2019. “Mr. Jones showed no regard whatsoever for the lives or safety of others, first by fleeing the scene of a crash and then by wantonly shooting at a police officer,” District Attorney Sini said. “Today’s sentencing holds him accountable for putting those lives at risk and posing a danger to our community. I commend the brave officer who continued to pursue this dangerous individual even in the line of fire, and I thank the prosecutors from my Office for obtaining this just outcome.”

Local Police Donate to Island Harvest Food Bank

Suffolk County Police officers recently teamed up to help Long islanders in need by making a $4,000 donation to Island Harvest, according to a statement posted on Facebook. The post said that for every dollar donated, Island Harvest is able to produce two meals.   “The year 2020 has created hardships for people like never before, hardships that can dampen the normally joyful holiday season,” the police statement read on Facebook.   A number of fraternal police organizations contributed to the donation including, ​Suffolk County Police Guardians, ​Suffolk County Police Hispanic Society, ​Suffolk County Police Asian Jade Society, ​Suffolk County Steuben Association, Suffolk Police Columbia Association, ​Suffolk County Police Officer’s Emerald Society, ​Suffolk County Association of Women Police, and ​Suffolk Police Ve
