A large ship was refloated by tugboats after it was stranded in Egypt's Suez Canal, informed shipping agent Leth Agencies on Thursday after which the flows of container ships resumed to normal in one of the world's busiest waterways.
The ship was identified by Leth as the 190 metres (623 foot) Xin Hai Tong 23, a bulk carrier.
"The Suez Canal Authority has successfully refloated M/V XIN HAI TONG 23 at 0740hrs (0440 GMT). The northbound convoy will enter at 0930hrs," stated Leth Agencies, in a tweet.
Lt. Gen. Osama Rabie said the hulking Ever Given would not be allowed to leave the country until a compensation amount is settled on with the vessel’s Japanese owner, Shoei Kisen Kaisha Ltd.

The Suez Canal authority has said that Egypt will seek compensation worth around $1 billion for the blockage caused by cargo vessel Ever Given,
Bloomberg reported on Thursday.
The canal authority’s Chief Executive Officer Osama Rabie on Wednesday told an Egyptian news channel that the amount was an estimate of losses linked to transit fees, damage to the waterway during the dredging and salvage efforts, and the cost of equipment and labour.
