A NEW phone app pilot is being launched in Hartlepool looking to provide dedicated support to those suffering from mental health issues. Hartlepool Borough Council has entered into an agreement to conduct a 12-month pilot of the Brain in Hand app with 20 people. Councillors on the adult and community based services committee heard how the app provides a professional digital support system helping people to make decisions, manage anxiety and deal with unexpected situations. Neil Harrison, council head of safeguarding and specialist services, said the pilot combines technology and people’s support networks to help them tackle everyday tasks and challenges.

He said: “One of the things that has come through during the pandemic has been issues around scams and the way in which vulnerable adults across the Tees Valley and nationally have been quite ruthlessly and horribly targeted by scammers.
“We have had some instances in Hartlepool where elderly people have lost life savings because of these scams, and in some instances tens, if not hundreds of thousands of pounds.”
He made the comments as councillors received the annual report from the Teeswide Safeguarding Adults Board for 2019/20, which also looked at plans for 2020/21.
