At the most recent meeting of the Pine Island COVID-19 Task Force, member Martha Huard said she would like to find out from Lee Health whether it would be feasible to have an island vaccination site if it could be staffed with island medical personnel.
Fellow Task Force member Sue Dahod said she feels the issue may clear up given more time.
“I believe there’s going to be all kinds of new roll-out plans for vaccinations,” said Dahod. “Right now it’s just a waiting game.”

The Pine Island COVID-19 Task Force meeting on Monday, Jan. 11, focused on vaccinations.
Task Force member Dr. Jim Koopman said he hasn’t found it reasonable to get the vaccination as of yet, while fellow board member Martha Huard said she waited in line for hers.
“I’m hearing they’re supposed to contact us for the second one,” said Huard, “but I don’t know how they’re going to do that for all of us.”
According to Huard, it is her understanding that the second vaccination is supposed to extend immunity, not increase it, but Koopman said it definitely boosts it.

Task Force member Sue Dahod inquired whether there was a stipulation on the vaccines between state residency as the Task Force discussed how long it might take to cover each state with vaccinations.

The Pine Island Task Force recently discussed Eric McCrea’s television interview, which covered his role on the Task Force as well as needed testing on the island. Member Martha Huard pointed out that Gov. Ron DeSantis has suggested potentially dispersing only one of the two COVID-19 vaccine doses recommended by the Department of Health.
“He said that today,” Task Force member Jim McLaughlin said of DeSantis. “He apparently wants to stretch them out and give at least one vaccine to more people because he only ordered enough for 90,000 people.”
