The federal government has extended the mandatory hotel quarantine stopover for air travellers until at least June 21. One must wonder why, though when COVID-19 variants are already here, and over 50% of the Canadian population is partially vaccinated. More importantly, why is the policy still in place when it is riddled with loopholes?
Mandatory hotel quarantines achieved absolutely nothing to prevent the import of variants in Canada. People found ways to circumvent the stopovers that seemed utterly unnecessary and draconian and created big holes in travellers’ pockets, not to mention the huge inconvenience.

After two long weeks quarantining at home, my wife and I are officially free Tuesday.
Although we followed all the rules remaining at home, checking in online everyday, answering incessant government calls and taking our Day 8 COVID test it became apparent very quickly that this was a federal make-work project.
