Sudan's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday denounced “as unjust” the European Council (EC) decision to impose sanctions on three companies affiliated with the Sudanese Army Forces (SAF). On Monday, the EC had imposed sanctions on six companies for their involvement in financing and arming the warring Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The EC said the six entities were responsible for “supporting activities undermining the stability and political transition of Sudan.”

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry called for criminalizing international dealings with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which it described as a "militia," and demanded that it be classified as a "terrorist group." The Ministry said in a statement that it followed with interest the latest report of the UN observers on the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1591 regarding Darfur and the war waged by the rebel militia, referring to the RSF and its supporters against the Sudanese people.
