mccarthy is getting support from former president donald trump but that support has failed to move the needle in his direction, not even by one vote. meantime democrats are relishing the leadership chaos on the other side. senior congressional correspondent chad pergram tells us where things stand right now. a long day today. good evening, chad. bret, things are getting worse not better for kevin mccarthy. his support is eroding. mccarthy says he s not backing down. now even a couple democrats are fishing for a deal. the support of former president trump failed to help mccarthy today. mr. trump saying it s time for the g.o.p. to vote for mccarthy and, quote: close the deal. but some of mr. trump s supporters scoffed. even having my favorite president call us and tell us we need to knock this off i think it actually needs to be reversed. the president needs to tell kevin mccarthy that, sir, you do not have the votes and it s time to withdrawal. mccarthy has lost on six c
