What s Flies Faster Than These Three Planes? Just About Nothing

MiG-25 One of the early jet fighters that can be counted among the fastest jets ever designed was the MiG-25. The Soviet Mikoyan-Gurevich airframe made extensive use of stainless steel, as a typical aluminum airframe would not have been able to cope with the stresses at the high speeds the MiG-25 was intended for. The airframe’s more robust steel construction came at a cost, however. The MiG-25 was a beast of a plane and tipped the scales at about 64,000 pounds without fuel or a full weapons load out adversely affecting flight performance. The heavy airplane was intended to be the Soviet Union’s premiere interceptor, and although it could achieve Mach 2.8 speeds, Soviet pilots were advised to not fly over Mach 2.5 in order to extend engine life. Still, one Mig-25 was tracked at Mach 3.2 over the Sinai Peninsula. The record flight came at a cost, however. After the flight, the airframe’s engines had to be written off.

NASA Seeking Proposals To Develop Subsonic Aircraft That Reduces Cost, Aviation Emission

NASA Seeking Proposals To Develop Subsonic Aircraft That Reduces Cost, Aviation Emission WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - NASA is seeking proposals from U.S. companies for ground and flight demonstrations of integrated megawatt-class powertrain systems to design and develop subsonic aircraft that help reduce aviation emissions and invigorate the U.S. economy. The US space agency said it plans to build hybrid aircraft using integrated Electrified Aircraft Propulsion (EAP) technologies and associated EAP vision systems for introduction into the U.S. and global fleet by 2035. Integrated EAP concepts are rapidly emerging as potentially transformative solutions to significantly improve the environmental sustainability of the next generation of subsonic transport vehicles.

retired army captain to give us a 101 on what tomahawks are, for one. and how you decide when tomahawks are the most appropriate you know tactic and which to use in a mission like this. so first off, what are they? they generally originate from ships. they originate from ships and submarines. but if you think of a tomahawk, think of a goal post in a football field, it s that tall. sort of a big tree and it s subsonic, it s unmanned, it flies up to 500 miles per hour, somewhere in that range. but it does it very, very low. it can carry 1,000-pound warhead and it has a warhead that has little bomb droplets for hitting airplanes on a runway site. as far as we know, the u.s. has been the only one to engage so far in these tomahawks. we know that the british have doma haw tomahawks as well. we know they ve been targeting air defense systems there in libya. likely to be more remote, at
