themselves with the president that brung them to the dance. we see that historically, that s not a modern phenomenon. it is historically a phenomenon, even a case i talked about earlier, youngstown, same accusations, that the president s appointed judges tended magically to align themselves with the president. you talk about the supreme court case here, denying that mystery company s wish to get rid of the fines and the contempt, that s exactly the kind of thing that is good for the mueller team. you have it right there, the contempt issue. that s a great thing for the mueller team in the sense that this company was always going to lose the subpoena fight. it was a relatively easy decision by the supreme court. some of these easier cases are not really that controversial for the supreme court. regardless whatever your political leanings are, the rule of law should be the rule of law. all right. thank you so much.
answering any questions about obstruction. they have answered questions about russia and collusion. they do not want to answer questions about obstruction and they are prepared to fight a subpoena if mueller attempted to force the president to answer further questions. so they are very much prepared for a subpoena fight. they do not expect one at this point, but that s something that could go all the way to the supreme court. from a legal standpoint what do you expect this white house will be seeing in 2019. i think it s going to bring a whole host of legal battles for this administration. the mueller investigation is moving ahead. we know there are different pieces of this. the cohen pieces and other pieces and the white house is going to be fending off numerous subpoenas from the democratic controlled house of representatives. so i think the white house has had enough of these legal battles but it ain t going away in 2019. we ll leave it there. thank you. thanks for braving the
we know, that it may be a subpoena fight involving at least somebody in the white house where there is an important issue that s being challenged. so, for example, the presence of michael drieben who is a constitutional lawyer. came to the special counsel s office from the solicitor general s office. nonpartisan career justice department, attention to legal detail. his presence, if those two things go to together, as evan reported, would indicate that maybe this the issue they are litigating is a matter of constitutional significance. so that could be potentially a subpoena to the president to testify. that could be or produce records. that could be a subpoena or order to the white house where maybe they are litigating some issue of executive privilege or something along those lines. the thing that s interesting, there have been no leaks from the special counsel s team but a ton of leaks from the president s legal team. more than leaks.
extra measures. so any sense to you that this might have something to do with the white house or national security issue? well, it s hard to say. because it s grand jury and because our reporting is that it s related to the special counsel s investigation, i am inclined to think, based on what we know, that it may be a subpoena fight involving at least somebody in the white house where there is an important issue that s being challenged. so, for example, the presence of michael drieben who is a constitutional lawyer, came to the special counsel s office from the solicitor general s office. nonpartisan career justice department, attention to legal detail. his presence, if those two things go to together, as evan reported, would indicate that maybe this the issue they are litigating is a matter of constitutional significance. so that could be potentially a subpoena to the president to testify. that could be or produce records. that could be a subpoena or
specifically to these hush payments. orrin hatch got into trouble trying to downplay them. they had, everyone commits campaign financial violations on capitol hill. it s not a big deal, so it appears that republicans are putting a wall against the president, as they know these democrats are gearing up to start launching their own investigations. i think as long as the president still maintains his top later with the base, republicans will stick by their man. i want your reaction when an entire floor got shut down for an entire hour during the mueller hearing. look, this subpoena fight has been going on for several months. what do we know about it? why take these extraordinary measures to keep it secret? we don t know very much about it. i think the secrecy is what has turned it into a story, obviously. people want to find out what s going on, who they re drying for
