months ago, what went wrong? why didn t they follow that training? the training was really detailed. it was not just classroom theoretical training. it was roaming the hallway sort of situational role-playing with a bunch of different agencies tro trying to access how they would best confronts the gunman. that s what the training teach them what the do. the incident commander reportedly said to the state police that they were treating it as a barricaded subject situation or hostage type of situation where they felt they needed more time to assess before they went into take out the gunman. yeah, of course, you found that the officers trying to emphasize that the urgency to stop the gunman was so high that they should not wait for a tactical team. as you point out, they did wait.

correspondent live mclaughlin is in uvalde with in wilmington covering the presidents trip. tell me about the latest alleviation uvalde. well, katie, law enforcement waited nearly an hour to move in on the shooter that took 21 lives here. and police chief peter arradondo s who made that call to wake. one that officials say it was a mistake. saying that the active shooter situation had turned into a barricaded subject situation. and now we are learning that his department has completed an active shooter training just two months ago. i himself completed an eight-hour active shooter training course in december, the same course that rain in august the year before. that curriculum, created by the texas commitments on law enforcement, was greeted two years ago and had very specific instructions, that the priority is to stop the killing and confront the gunman immediately.
