Kolkata: In a significant departure from its erstwhile inclination to put faith in the old guard, the CPI(M) has named a number of young candidates â mostly present or former student leaders â for the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal.
The Wire in November 2020 had quoted senior CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty as having said that the party was nurturing young upcoming leaders who would be brought to the forefront of electoral politics at the right time.

Union Minister Amit Shah will start his two-day visit to the poll-bound state of West Bengal on Saturday. The visit comes on the back of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Suvendu Adhikari tendering his resignation from the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. He is all set to join the BJP.
It was also learned from sources that BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya spoke to Adhikari on Tuesday for about four minutes wishing him on his birthday.

NEW DELHI: Trinamool rebel Subhendu Adhikari received feelers from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi amid clear indications that he is set to quit the Mamata Banerjee-led party and join BJP ahead of West Bengal elections.
It is learnt that a Congress leader from Bengal called Adhikari and conveyed the message from Rahul Gandhi that he join the Congress.
However, Adhikari is learnt to have said that while he belongs to a Congress family and was part of the Youth Congress, his political purpose would not be served by joining the Congress. He apparently said that Congress was organisationally weak in Bengal while his ambition was to have a political say in state politics.
