Myanmar’s security forces have been accused of killing protestors after a coup resulted in the removal of the democratically elected government
Unreported World (C4, 7.30pm) MASS protests have been taking place across Myanmar since the military seized control on February 1. Elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi and members of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party are among those detained, while hundreds of people, including children, have been killed. In this shocking report, a filmmaker is on the front line in Yangon as young protestors risk everything to defy the military junta’s coup. As the death toll in the city mounts, the early optimism and hope of a protest movement disintegrates as the security services launch a brutal crackdown on unarmed civilians. Then, as pressure to release political prisoners and journalists intensifies, so does the bloody crackdown.
Tom Allen
It’s easy to forget that Tom Allen is first and foremost a comedian.
The Bromley-born entertainer, who turns 38 next month, won the So You Think You’re Funny contest as well as the BBC New Comedy Award in 2005.
Then, for the next decade he plied his trade on the stand-up circuit, supporting Sarah Millican, Josh Widdicombe, Romesh Ranganathan and Michael McIntyre on their tours, and making a splash at the Edinburgh Fringe with his shows Indeed and Absolutely, before embarking on his first solo tour in 2017 and 2018.
However, over the past few years, Tom has branched out to become a seemingly omnipresent figure on some of the nation’s biggest TV shows.
