MADURAI: The flood situation in Tuticorin district remained critical on Tuesday, even as floodwaters receded in Tirunelveli city, Tenkasi and Kanyakum.
When Ockhi caught the fishers off-guard, the community from Thoothoor and surrounding coastal villages approached visiting ministers including Nirmala Sitharaman, who was then the defence minister, for better communication facilities. The fishermen were provided satellite phones and the service was offered by the country’s telecom operator BSNL.
