ELKTON â Upper Bay Counseling & Support Services, one of the regionâs largest providers of mental healthcare, had to transition into a virtual world during the pandemic.
âIn about two weeks, we were able to go from all in person sessions to moving probably 90% of what we do to virtual,â said CEO Suanne Blumberg.
Upper Bay will now use what they learned during the pandemic to create a hybrid model, allowing for clients to choose between in-person therapy or virtual therapy depending on their preference.
A recently passed state law, âThe Preserve Telehealth Access Act,â allows for telehealth services to continue to be covered by Medicaid and commercial insurance, after the state of emergency is lifted. Blumberg said a large portion of Upper Bay clients are on Medicaid, so the law, taking effect on July 1, has a great impact on their ability to provide services after the pandemic.
Art is often more than just entertainment or a pretty picture to hang up above the dining room table; Art helps us process difficult emotions and trauma.
The Cecil County Arts Council is showcasing how meaningful art can be through their 24th annual âExpressions of Healing,â exhibit focusing on the work of clients participating in Upper Bay Counseling and Support Services Art Therapy programs. The exhibit will run until May 31.
âItâs another avenue of healing,â said Kevin Lundin, director of business development and marketing for Upper Bay. âPeople who have difficulty verbalizing or trouble with traditional methods of expressing their feelings, this is how they get it out there. Theyâll put their feelings right on the canvas.â
