Six exceptional Washington State University women were honored for their accomplishments, service, and commitment to student success at the Women of Distinction awards ceremony on April 16. The annual event, now in its 15th year, recognizes the incredible achievements of women in the WSU community.
This year’s award recipients represent a range of campuses, colleges, and academic and professional pursuits, but they all have one thing in common: a dedication to making their campuses and communities better places.
“Acknowledging the achievements of women leaders across the WSU system is the easy part – the hardest part is selecting just six women out of the large number of applications we received this year,” said Davi Kallman, Women of Distinction co-chair and Commission on the State of Women public relations officer. “We received more applications than ever before, and we are so thankful to our amazing reviews f

The University of Mississippi has been prepared to distribute COVID-19 vaccinations within a moment’s notice for weeks.
Socially-distanced tables and chairs fill the Tad Smith Coliseum, organizing the circular building into stations through which patients will rotate counter-clockwise. General medical supplies are stocked, and security guards are on call. According to students who have begun training, approximately 180 UM pharmacy students will be assisting licensed pharmacists in administering the vaccine.

The only thing missing from the university’s vaccination distribution plan is actual doses of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.
Although classes for WSU pharmacy students are mostly online, some students started volunteering to administer COVID-19 vaccinations in Spokane.
Crystal Lewis, third-year pharmacy student, helped vaccinate about 200 people during her first volunteer event at the Summit Cancer Care Center. For the eight-hour shift, the majority of recipients were healthcare workers, she said.
About 50 other students have volunteered so far in locations around the state, including Seattle and Yakima, Lewis said. Volunteers must be immunization certified.
Lewis, born and raised in Tacoma, Washington, graduated from Western Washington University in 2018 with a bachelor’s in biology with molecular and cell emphasis, she said.

WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences students put their training into practice assisting with arrival testing in Pullman ahead of the start of the Spring 2021 semester.
More than a dozen pharmacy students helped Pullman students who live off campus with their COVID-19 nasal swab tests, providing instruction on how to administer the test and ensuring samples are handled and stored properly. Nearly all fraternities and sororities reserved times for their members to visit the Adams Mall, located in the Greek Row area of College Hill, for COVID-19 testing as part of the program.
