ASUN kicks off new term, allocates up to $4,250 to Student Organic Farm

The senate also conducted internal elections for the speaker of the senate and Appointments Board chair.  Sen. Christine Trinh won a narrow election and will serve as the speaker of the senate for the 2021-22 administration. Trinh said in a nomination speech that she will work with senators on legislation and help them amplify their voices.  “As speaker, I would make it my mission not only to work with senators on legislation but to amplify their voice and ensure their presence and time in ASUN is worthwhile,” Trinh said.  Sen. Zoe Keese won election to be Appointments Board chair.  ASUN will allocate up to $4,250 from the Green Fund budget to the Student Organic Farm, after passing Government Bill 1. 

Newly elected senate to present new bill at final ASUN meeting of the year

The Association of Students of the University of Nebraska 2021-22 senate will meet for its first full meeting Wednesday in what will also be the final meeting of the 2020-21 academic year.  President Batool Ibrahim, internal Vice President Taylor Jarvis and external Vice President Patrick Baker will all give their first executive reports.  Government Bill 1 will be presented. If this bill passes, ASUN will allocate up to $4250 from the Green Fund budget to the Student Organic Farm. Additionally, the bill would also require the leaders of the farm to give a report to the senate body following the completion of the project.

World Technology Access Program IPM CRSP Outreach and Education A good teacher looks for ways to make learning come alive. When Dr. Murat Aitmatov from Kyrgyzstan visited Michigan State University’s Student Organic Farm in 2006, he knew he’d found something that would touch his students on the other side of the globe. Aitmatov visited MSU to attend the International Agroecology, IPM and Sustainable Agriculture program and to work with Drs. George Bird and Walter Pett. Aitmatov lives in Kyrgyzstan and is a collaborator with Bird and Pett in the Central Asia Integrated Pest Management Collaborative Research Support Program ( IPM CRSP) Project. The project brings together American and Central Asian expertise and resources to solve problems from overuse of pesticides and limited crop diversity.
