After the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) recommended a pause of the COVID-19 Johnson & Johnson vaccine distribution, East Carolina University and Vidant Health will pause distribution of this vaccine variant until further notice.
ECU will distribute the Moderna vaccine in replacement of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, according to an ECU Student Announcement on April 13 from Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Virginia Hardy.Â
More than 6.8 million Johnson & Johnson vaccine doses have been administered in the United States, Hardy said in the announcement. She said there have been six reported cases of a ârare and severeâ type of blood clot in individuals who received this vaccine.
