Ōhakune could be served a boil water notice unless excess water use can be trimmed through conservation and reducing losses via leaks.
Increased demand for water from holiday visitors, combined with forecasts of bad weather is raising the possibility of a boil water notice for Ōhakune. In a release on Thursday, the Ruapehu District Council again urgently asked the township to reduce water usage and fix leaks or drips to help avoid the need for such a call. In June, the council compared excess water demand in the town to the equivalent of emptying out and then refilling the main Ōhakune swimming pool two-and-a-half times every day.
