A medieval silver brooch which was found by a metal detectorist near Stonehouse was declared to be treasure by a coroner today. Assistant Gloucestershire Coroner Roland Wooderson said the annular brooch was found by Jack Barnett of Slimbridge on 7th July 2019 and Stroud s Museum at the Park are keen to acquire it. The brooch had been examined by Kurt Adams, the Gloucestershire and Avon Finds Liaison Officer, and he had identified it as silver and dating back to the 14th century, the coroner said during a hearing at the coroner s court in Barnwood. He formally recorded the find as treasure. For an object to be classed as Treasure it must be composed of precious metal and more than 300 years old.
