COULD the people of Somerset be heading to another referendum - this time over the future of local government in the county? Next week, district councillors are being asked to back recommendations to give the people of Somerset a vote on how local councils are organised in the future. A proposal to hold a local referendum on the two options for local government reform in Somerset will be discussed at council meetings in each of the four district councils to be held on April 14 and 15. If approved, electors across Somerset would be given the chance to vote for either Stronger Somerset, proposed by the four district councils, or One Somerset, the county council’s alternative.
