Instead of threatening to impose barriers against inexpensiveimports, the Bush Administration should (1) advance free tradeagreements and lead WTO negotiations to eliminate protectionistpolicies that benefit a small group of Americans at the expense ofmost other citizens and (2) lower the tax and regulatory burden onU.S. companies so that they can be more competitive.
