Letter: Pirolis example of families leading communities

I was genuinely touched by Anthony’s heartfelt praise for his parents and his hometown. That got me thinking how important it was that families like the Pirolis kept this town together after the catastrophe of the mill closing. I learned about the old days of Aliquippa in these very pages from Beaver County historian Gino Piroli. Pirolis were there to nurse this place after its economic legs were cut off and two-thirds of its people bled out.
It so happens that Anthony’s father, Art, works at the Aliquippa Water Authority where I occupy a board seat. I’m not chummy with the man, our paths don’t often cross. Art is a quiet guy who gets the job done and doesn’t make a fuss.
