marines. a proud sergeant, on deployment in afghanistan. and it was there, everything changed. a loud explosion went off. and i just remember asking for help. time flew by. reporter: an i.e.d. exploded. when josh woke up, both legs had been amputated above the knee. but this fighter proved he would fight again. determined to be part of a team again. the intense rehab and the strength building. and soon, a whole new challenge, playing hockey again. being a marine, you feel like you re on top of the world. and after you re injured, you re wondering, where am i at in life? what s going on? and getting back out there on the ice reminded me, i m still the same person i was. and i can still go out and have fun. reporter: he would return to the ice. make that pass. reporter: this time, he would play hockey on a sled, balancing on two blades underneath. playing in sochi, playing for team usa, at the olympics. and he s alone.
