At 101 years old, Alma Ross is fully alert to Philly happenings, but her memories span growing up in the South, moving to Philadelphia, and all her "blessings."
Universal Vare Charter School closed indefinitely Friday after an asbestos exposure was discovered becoming the sixth school in Philadelphia to close. Students and staff will have virtual learning for the time being. Students who have to take PSSA exams will be bussed to Universal Audenried High School on test days.
Building 21, closed since March 1, is expected to reopen May 1. Mitchell Elementary, closed since early April, will relocate to McMichael Elementary, in West Philadelphia, for the rest of the year.
