The Strathmore Hotel
After more than 100 years in business, the seafront hotel s parent company and owners of coach tour company Shearings Holidays, Specialist Leisure Group, went into administration. The hotel remained closed during summer and it was feared the town had lost one of its landmark venues.
Thankfully, following a hotel management agreement with Bespoke Hotels, the hotel was saved from extinction and reopened as part of their Coast & Country Hotel Collection - a menagerie of 39 venues spread across leisure destinations throughout Great Britain including the Lake District, the west coast of Scotland, and Cornwall. It s been a challenging time, admits Mark McNicol, North West General Manager for the Coast & Country Hotel Collection. Trying to take over and operate hotels in Covid times has been a nightmare, especially what with the UK-wide issues with hospitality staffing levels, which are at about 60% of what they were.
The Strathmore Hotel in Morecambe is offering wedding packages for just £2,000 A hotel that was rescued from the risk of permanent closure has officially re-opened and is welcoming back weddings to its stunning venue. The Strathmore Hotel in Morecambe recently re-opened under new ownership following the collapse of Specialist Leisure Group in 2020, the then owner of the Shearings brand. Now, as part of the new hotel management agreement, availability for weddings is good – meaning couples who have had to wait or even became engaged during lockdown are in a good position to secure their perfect date. And following the recent Government announcement - allowing for weddings to go ahead with no limit on numbers other than social distancing requirements - staff at the Strathmore Hotel have expressed delight that they can progress with offering weddings, as they continue to rebuild and re-establish its reputation as one of Morecambe’s foremost wedding venues.
