It s the first time snow has settled in the region since 2011. Students Neive Rayner, Lily Single and teacher Ben Single made a giant snowballs, threw snowballs at each other and made use of the snow-covered playground.

Pembroke School was closed on Tuesday, but some students still headed along for a play in the snow. Neive Rayner, left, Lily Single, teacher Ben Single and Neive Rayner made a giant snowball. It was the first time Single had ever had to make the call to close the school for a snow day. “It’s the best day ever,” she said.
“We would get off the plane, train, and play the game and then head back home.” Close rugby friends, such as Taranaki local Conrad Smith, were always suggesting he pay a visit, he said. “They would tell me all the time how great it was. It was quite nice to find out what else there was to see.”
