Confused Buhari Seeks Debt Relief While Seeking to Borrow Another $6.1Bn

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in Paris, France, called on European countries and global financial institutions to consider debt relief for African countries.
He said this would assist in reducing the devastating effect of the Coronavirus pandemic on the countries.
The proposition by President Muhammadu Buhari seems rather ironic as the President has written to the Senate to approve the borrowing another $6.1billion from bilateral and multilateral organisations to fund the deficit in the 2021 budget.
The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, read the letter during the plenary session of the upper legislative chamber on Tuesday.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday in Paris, France, called on European countries and global financial institutions to consider debt relief for African countries.
He said this would assist in reducing the devastating effect of the Coronavirus pandemic on the countries.
According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President spoke at the Financing Africa Summit held at Grande Palais Ephemere with the theme: “External Financing and debt Treatment.”
The statement was titled ‘President Buhari seeks debt relief for African countries, says PPP will reduce corruption, speed growth.’

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on European countries and global financial institutions to consider reducing the devastating effect of the coronavirus pandemic on African economies by restructuring debt portfolios, opting for complete reliefs.
The President also canvassed for the release of vaccines to the African continent, which he said was still behind in protecting majority of its citizens.
President Buhari made the call on Tuesday at the Financing Africa Summit held at Grande Palais Ephemere in Paris, France, with the theme: “External Financing and debt Treatment”
