a steering problem but told safety inspectors that there were no complaints in the u.s. and that the trucks were built differently. internal documents dispute that. toyota ended up recalling some of those same trucks in 2005. despite all the bad press and recalls, toyota announced it made a $2.2 billion profit. the gulf oil leak is at the center of a pair of capital hearings. executives from b.p., transocean and halliburton will testify before the senate committee and likely point fingers at each other. there is a public hearing going on in ket ter, louisiana, the coast guard is leading that investigation. is b.p. keeping a secret, controlling the message, plugging another kind of leak with great success, video of the oil leak from a mile down? ed lavandera reports that b.p. is keeping the video close to the vest while using other videos to tout their can-do
you have transocean which owned the rig and you had halliburton which had done some work on the rig. what are we expecting? finger-pointing. in the testimony that we ve seen, the early testimony coming from these chiefs of these corporations. we see that bp is going to be saying essentially that transocean is to blame here because their blowout preventer, a device called the blowout preventer failed to work. well, in the testimony coming from transocean which owns the rig, they re expected to say they don t even understand why people are pointing to this idea of the blowout preventer because that is something that would have been used during the drilling of this well, and the well had basically been temporarily capped. so to them it seems just ridiculous that the finger is being pointed at this and they re saying that bp is very much to blame. so i think we have an idea here, kyra, that there will be some finger pointing and perhaps raising more questions than even may be answered.
there is a 2% chance of tornadoes here today compared with a 1-4 chance yesterday. there will be some rotation likely. we will also see some hail makers. again, this won t be developing until later on today. what happened yesterday, a very dynamic situation. check out these pictures we have from storm spotters of the tornado. this was in north central oklahoma near medford. there you can see multiple vortices. they tend to happen because of the air incoming as well as a little bit of friction. this is a lot of reasons why sometimes we will see one house which is destroyed and one standing next to it that isn t. so these were very classic looking supercells. very violent day yesterday. today, we will have to watch out for more. hopefully, not as bad. we will watch it together. thanks so much sfwlchlt. finger pointing and grilling, executives from b.p., trans
also here in texas 2005 had texas city. british petroleum where people died. british petroleum will be responsible for ten national wildlife threats of a cornucopia of wildlife, beautiful beaches, salt marshes, sandy barrier island, the home of black skinners, the largest tern colony in the united states. to not be stepping forward and talking about the wildlife cost, what s going to happen to the economy in louisiana now and do be doing the kind of statement you just read tells me that british petroleum is going to be in deeper trouble in days to come because they re not facing the consequence of what the company s responsible for. you know a fair amount about this industry, doug. you know, one thing, when you talk about the rigs, you talk about the company itself, bp ceo tony hayward has laid blame on trans-ocean, saying basically it s their rig, their equipment, their people, their systems, their safety processes.
explosion. there was no indication beforehand that there was any problem on the rig. reporter: new orleans attorney bernie strauss has been approached for legal advice by civ several workers. he s close to taking on the case of two workers which will likely filed a lawsuit. neither of those worker nor others we approached would speak directly us to. they told strauss there wasn t just one explosion by several. anded they knew how to evacuate the rig but in a situation like this, it was fairly chaotic. some were jumping overboard. reporter: her husband carlos, a rig worker, gave her detail to her. there were some people on fire jumping overboard. reporter: officials at trans ocean and bp would not comment on the accounts from them. strauss says his perspective clients are not sure what caused the, ploegs. bp s local ceo told cnn this. the issue here is that the
