Strange But True: Clintonian helped develop popular health plan Terrance Ingano Dr. Morton Madoff was born and raised in Clinton.  His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Madoff of 234 Chestnut St.  His family consisted of two brothers Irving and Henry who both became surgeons, and a sister (Sarabelle), who became a bacteriologist. In the mid-1960s, Morton Madoff made national headlines for being directly involved in the first transplant of a kidney from a corpse to a living body.  He and a colleague created a serum to suppress the rejection of that organ. Morton graduated from Clinton High School in 1945.  Musically talented, he played the sax and clarinet in various orchestras in the Clinton area.  He entered the Navy and later graduated from Tulane University’s School of Medicine.  He moved back to Massachusetts to complete his residency at Tufts Medical Center, where he served for many years.

Strange But True: Team McNamara took Clinton s softball scene by storm Terrance Ingano By the mid-1930s, the sport of softball had taken Clinton by storm.  Every neighborhood, every mill, every bar  everybody seemed to have a team that competed on fields all around our community.  There was this one team that created quite a stir in Clinton and the surrounding towns a novelty team in a way.  That team was composed entirely of the McNamara family Martin McNamara of Ash Street and his nine sons created a softball team in late July of 1936 and got a lot of press throughout Central Massachusetts and beyond.

Strange But True: Clinton s ace pilot, William Moran, delighted with aerial feats

William K. Moran was the son of Michael and Margaret (King) Moran of 53 Richman St. He was born and raised in Clinton, graduated from Clinton High School, and enlisted in the Aviation Corps in the fall of 1917. After training at Cornell University and flying fields in the mid-West, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant and was assigned to instruction service in Pensacola, Fla. Despite his insistence on going overseas to enter the Great War, Moran was retained as a flight instructor. Part of the work he did in the early 1920s was to chart and map the southern and southwestern parts of the United Sates, developing future routes for air mail and, ultimately, passenger planes.
