good morning, everybody. tuesday, december 28th and we are still digging out here in new york city. oh, yeah. especially some of the cars. you should see lined up on the streets of new york city this morning. if you didn t get out before the plows got in, you are in trouble this morning. big trouble. the snow stopped falling yesterday and there s stale lot of headaches to contend with. the blizzard of 2010, stranding thousands of people who are still trying to dig out and fly out this morning. absolutely. they re waiting at the terminal and sometimes on the tarmac. it is still chaos at the airports this morning in the new york city area. they re open but that s a relative term because they have a lot of catching up to do. over 4,000 flights canceled. we are live at laguardia where people spent another night stranded by the blizzard. the port authority say they re not satisfied with the situation at the airport and looking into that, as well. that s right.

least one fatality. the wind would come up and then just die down. reporter: in new york, plow would remove the snow but not all fears. terrifying. i just moved here from arizona a few months ago and this is my first real winter. i m terrified. this is terrible. reporter: in the height of the storm all three airports shut down. newark, laguardia and j.f.k. are hoping to reopen sometime tonight. others including boston s logan, although remaining open had massive cancellations. just have to deal it with. better safe than sorry. reporter: in philadelphia, 700 flights were canceled stranding thousands. the storm tested people s patience. we checked this morning and it was fine on the way up here. but we got up here and checked and was canceled. reporter: even passengers far south as florida had storm-related delays amounting to extra days vacation. shannon: we we had a great time. couple more nights.

well, flights are cancelled tonight stranding thousands of travelers. newark international airport is, in fact, completely shut down. deborah alfaran from affiliate wpix is standing by live outside one of the terminals. what s going on where you are? i mean no flights taking off. no flights landing, and people sleeping in the terminal, right? reporter: yeah. people are sleeping in the terminal at this point, hala. i mean the thing is we started off with delays and then we had cancellations. now you really don t hear about it that often but newark liberty international airport is completely shut down. i ll ask christian to pan off a little bit and show you what the scene is like here. i mean we ve seen plow trucks trying to keep this lot clean it is just a losing battle. we went inside to talk to some people, and they are going to have to sack out here for the night because some of these hotels are actually packed. uh-huh. and we re talking about hotels, these were the airport hotel

and at least at this point and we anticipate that to be-to-remain the case throughout night and into the morning. let me ask you. people rely on amtrak, of course. tomorrow is monday. how early will you start services again tomorrow? the first trains out in the morning, i m not exactly sure when the first one would be out. the customer service people would know better than i would because we re trying to formulate what equipment would be available, but the best way and the best advice i gave everyone is to call 1-800-usa to find out specific train information. we are running a limited schedule, were running a limited schedule even before the storm came up the coast because of the christmas holiday, but, again, we are very hopeful that we ll be able to get folks between boston and new york starting tomorrow morning. cliff cole, an amtrak spokesperson joining us live there. thanks very much for the update and, of course, telling passengers out there who are booked on train journeys
