Washington – A new Republican group is buying TV ads and billboards in Central New York to thank Rep. John Katko for voting to impeach former president Donald Trump.
The ads are part of a $1 million national ad campaign paid for by the anti-Trump Republican Accountability Project.
The group said Friday the ads will appear over the next month in the states and districts of the 10 Republican House members and seven GOP senators who voted to impeach and convict Trump.

Rep. John Katko is facing the first organized pushback from within his own party over his vote to impeach former president Donald Trump for inciting a violent mob to storm the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
A group of about 40 Republican and Conservative party leaders and donors met privately at a Syracuse restaurant last week to discuss whether to continue supporting the congressman or to back a primary opponent.
One month after voting to impeach President Donald Trump, the potential political consequences for U.S. Rep. John Katko are coming into focus.Â
About 40 people â some rank-and-file Republicans, including donors to Katko s campaign, and Conservative Party leaders â met recently at a Syracuse restaurant. The meeting centered on one topic: Their dissatisfaction with Katko, a fourth-term Republican congressman who was one of 10 GOP House members who voted to impeach Trump.Â
That disappointment isn t surprising. Immediately after the vote, central New York Republican and Conservative leaders panned Katko s decision. But the frustrations expressed at the meeting, especially among the Conservative Party leadership in attendance, raise doubts about whether Katko will receive the party s support in the 2022 election. And that could cost him the Republican Party s endorsement, too.Â
Charity scuttles plan to move homeless shelter near Park Ave. after uproar from neighborhood

The proposed location for a new Catholic Charities men s shelter is a vacant building at 501 W. Genesee St.

Syracuse, N.Y. Catholic Charities has scuttled plans to move a homeless shelter near the Park Avenue neighborhood after three months of uproar from residents and business owners.
The non-for-profit said in September it planned to buy the building at 501 W. Genesee St. for a 99-bed shelter as well as mental health services and office space for up to 50 workers.
This week, Executive Director Mike Melara said all activity for the project at that building has been suspended and the organization is exploring other options.
