A new report Civic Space Watch report 2021: Stories of hope in dark times’, the European Civic Forum showcases civil society’s role in the past two years in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the report, the authors stress that democratic institutions must play their crucial role responding to society’s needs, including through support for civic organisations to preserve their role as independent actors. Especially also in the light that currently many civic and social actors play a crucial role in helping Ukrainian people and others in need. Often with few resources and little power. The report highlights 10 aspects of the challenges civil society faced throughout the year 2021.
On 8th of March, the European Commission launched a consultation related with the ongoing impact assessment for the revision of the Victims' Rights Directive. This consultation should gather the views of the public on possible policy options. In particular, the consultation is aimed at identifying possible ways in which the existing rights of victims, including those already specified in the Directive, could be further strengthened. The revision of the Victims’ Rights Directive is part of the EU Strategy on victims’ rights (2020-2025).
To raise attention for the situation in Ukraine, La Strada International is organising a webinar with representatives of civil society actors in Ukraine. It is aimed to hear more about the support still provided to persons in very vulnerable conditions and what civil society and other actors in Europe can do to help civil society in Ukraine.
To support our colleagues in Ukraine (La Strada Ukraine), La Strada International has established an emergency fund. Funding received will be used to help them to remain safe, flee the country when possible, to access shelter and or other support for urgent needs.
