year that had the storm surge events. now it s the big end area with the storm surge events. these low-lying coastal areas. and people do live there, but it s every year, every couple years where you re seeing this devastating destructive storm surge. how does that factor in to where people, do you think, choose to live or how they build along the florida gulf coast. yeah. well, what happens, unfortunately, from an economic standpoint, when a storm comes through, i ll give you an example, monroe county, it destroyed all the mobile home parks, everything that was down there back in 2018. and what s going to get rebuilt is not just going to be up to code. meaning up to modern code to withstand that kind of event, but it s going to be a lot more expensive because the cost of building it at that level. if you re the owner of a land that has a mobile home park and now you can sell it to someone who is going to develop it, dw you re going to go with the
wind events or a storm surge events, the bottom line is the amount of rain that we re going to get, not just today but the next several days is going to lead to beyond saturation in some of these places. it is 12 years to the day, general, unfortunately, they didn t have the sense to call you up at the beginning of katrina. they waited a couple days to activate you. it was 12 days to the day that this settled in, in new orleans. we do know that the president has signed a declaration of emergency for texas and the texas governors called up 700 members of the national guard. tell me how that helps. well, it helps because they re pre-positioned. but he s going to have to dig deeper than that into he s got about over about 14,000 troops in texas national guard. i would suspect in the coming days and hours, you see more of that national guard will be
strengthen much maybe 60 to 65 mile-per-hour storm. this isn t one of those bad wind or storm surge events. just a lot of rain. inland flooding is going to be the big story from this. guys? like a circuit system. looks like silly string. a whole pile. keep on looking at those models. we will give you updates as the morning continues. meanwhile progress is being made in the fight against raging wildfire in southern california. residents of about howfl half of the 1500 evacuated homes are being allowed to return home. in addition interstate 15, the main highway between l.a. and las vegas is reopening. the fire started in the highway median. at least two mobile homes were destroyed. two other buildings damaged. sarah palin greeted with very warm welcomes upon arriving in iowa.
