In anticipation of Tropical Storm Calvin, Governor Green signed an Emergency Proclamation today to make resources available to address potential storm impacts. State offices in the County of Hawaiʻi will be closed on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 due to expected severe weather conditions.
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the Big Island, and a Flood Watch was issued for both Maui County and Hawaiʻi Island, from Tuesday night through Wednesday afternoon.
At 5 a.m., Calvin was located 920 miles ESE of Hilo, Hawaiʻi; 990 miles ESE of Hāna, Maui; and 1025 miles ESE of Kahului, Maui.
Tropical Storm Calvin is now 790 miles east of Hilo and moving toward the Big Island at 21 mph with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.
