a weather emergency is happening right now in the u.s. state of texas. at least three tornadoes slammed the dallas suburbs over the weekend, killing 11 people. and now the area is expecting freezing weather and snow. that will make it harder, of course, for emergency crews who are still sifting through storm debris, making sure no victims were overlooked. hundreds of buildings and homes are damaged, and as nick valencia reports, the governor has declared a disaster in four counties. reporter: the damage to this area has been extraordinary, and the residents we ve spoken to said the stress and the anxiety is still very real. whoa. my gosh. it s big. it s hitting stuff it s a big tornado. big, strong tornado. reporter: residents in texas are picking up the pieces today after a terrifying night of deadly storms. i actually looked at the
the storm moved through the oklahoma city area, around 6:00, 7:00 p.m. that s what you saw with all the storm debris going on, very challenging situation for storm chasers. what unfolding tomorrow when daylight approaches? caller: well, when daylight approaches, the cleanup begins with whatever damage is there. haven t been able to ascertain any damage tonight. but definitely, first light will be the full extent of the damage. kevin rolfs, we thank you for joining us this evening. we are praying for all the people in oklahoma city and, heather, it s been a day. the past two weeks have been very eventful. fast and furious, the storms swept through. at last count, officially from the medical examiner, five people five deaths reported as a result of the tornado in oklahoma. 54,000 people without power
best to barricade yourself against any storm debris. if you are going to get into your car you need to act early enough. you don t want to wait until the last minute because it s very easy to get disoriented when you re in a rain wrapped tornado situation. you don t know which way to go. so you would be better off in that situation to stay in your home. if you do have some lead time then you want to drive at a right angle away from the tornado to get away from it. some of these tornadoes can be moving at some 40, 50 miles per hour. so of course you have to be able to keep up a pretty brisk pace to out run it. i would say barricading yourself, putting helmets on your children. shoes on their feet. you don t want to have them barefoot when the storm hits is probably your best line of defense at the last minute all right. samantha, stand by. we ll take a quick break and resume our special coverage right after this. man: i know the name of eight princesses. i m on expert on softball. and t
