Grace Pryor thinks back with remarkable clarity to that murky, nightmarish night six years ago, when she was stumbling back to her dorm room at Brevard College.
Pryor, now 26 and an aspiring doctor of audiology, knew she’d had too much Bacardi to be driving home in the early morning of April 12, 2015. But she was alert enough to remember the alleged rape by two basketball players she called friends.
In addition to that trauma were the stinging words of District Attorney Greg Newman, whose job Pryor thought was to uphold justice.
“He told me five different ways it was my fault. The one that resonates most is he said it was because I was wearing a crop top and leggings. It was pretty horrifying,” Pryor said.

Raleigh, N.C. Charlotte Catholic and Weddington came away with grand championships at the virtual N.C. Cheerleading Coaches Association state championship competition, streamed on HighSchoolOT on Wednesday evening.
The competition was held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Teams submitted videos to the NCCCA, which were reviewed and scored by judges. The results were announced live on Wednesday night.

Randi Luzwick has opened Wise Folk Yoga studio in the Mickey & Co. building in downtown King.

Luzwick recently led the West Stokes swim team in a session at the studio.
Luzwick took a couple of yoga classes in college and fell in love with it.
KING Yoga in King? Randi Luzwick decided to take a chance on the idea when she recently opened her Wise Folk Yoga business downtown.
The studio is located inside Mickey & Co. on South Main Street, between the hair salon and boutique and the new coffee shop/tap room, which opened officially on Monday.

Kevin Spainhour has served as principal at West Stokes since 2013. He announced this week that he is leaving to take the principal position at West Forsyth.
KING West Stokes High School Principal Kevin Spainhour told staff and students Wednesday that he was resigning to become principal at West Forsyth in Lewisville.
Spainhour is the current Stokes County Principal of the Year.
In a four-and-a-half minute video for students “present and past,” Spainhour announced his decision with “a heavy heart.”
“I love West Stokes High School,” he said. “I love everything about this community. The faculty that collaborates together and genuinely cares about one another. And oh, the graduates, over 1,500 graduates that I’ve had the pleasure to hand a diploma to.”
