Detective Luca Benedetti with the San Luis Obispo Police Department was fatally shot Monday evening by a suspect in an apartment complex while police were executing a search warrant for allegedly stolen property, the department said Tuesday. Another officer, Detective Steven Orozco, was wounded during that shooting and was treated at a hospital.

A mass vaccination site at Stockton Arena did not open as planned on Tuesday after health care providers did not receive the anticipated supply of vaccines from the state, Kaiser Permanente said Sunday.
The Stockton mass vaccination hub, which was to be operated by Kaiser and a consortium of health care partners, was delayed until the necessary COVID-19 vaccine is available. Kaiser says it learned late last week that the state did not receive enough vaccine supply to provide it for the Stockton hub.

San Joaquin County hit a grim milestone the first week of January as intensive care unit demand reached an all-time high of 175% in the county’s seven hospitals.
“I cannot say thank you enough to the staff of the county’s seven acute care hospitals for their skill and dedication in caring for patients during the pandemic especially for the 106 COVID positive patients requiring intensive care services,” said Dan Burch, EMS administrator, said Monday. “The 106 patients requiring ICU care to battle COVID alone exceeds the county’s 99 licensed ICU beds. The impact of COVID-19 on the members of our community and our healthcare system is glaring.”
Two arrested in connection with north Stockton triple shooting that left 17-year-old dead
STOCKTON Two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy Tuesday afternoon in north Stockton. A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed late Tuesday afternoon in north Stockton, the eighth murder of a violent December in the city.
Stockton Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting at 4:11 p.m. Tuesday near Waudman and Don avenues. While officers were traveling to that site, a second report indicated three gunshot victims drove to a shopping center parking lot, less than a mile away, at Don Avenue and Hammer Lane, stopping in front of a McDonald s restaurant.
