A Swedish-Iranian man who was convicted on spying charges would be executed by May 21, Iran’s ISNA news agency said on Wednesday citing unnamed officials.
Ahmad Reza Jalali, who specialises in disaster relief and has taught at European universities, was arrested in Iran in April 2016 for allegedly “spying on behalf of Israel and having a role in the killing of Iranian nuclear physicists", ISNA said citing sources.
He was subsequently sentenced to death, which was upheld by the Iranian Supreme Court in 2017.
