milk, you know, and a loaf of bread that is really impacting the consumer. with re looking at some time down the road this coming home to roost in the sense this inflationary effect, this bubble will sometime have to relieve itself in terms of the pressure? it s a great question. people have been talking about this, i d say, for a year now. the fact that the fed buying up all of these bonds and pushing the stock market up is, as you say, disconnected from what is happening in main street in america. but i do think that these jobs numbers and the fact that income is starting to tick up just a little bit is a really good sign. the other thing to remember is that when you think about stock prices, particularly of america s biggest blue chips like ibm or proctor and gamble they are not just dependent upon you as workers. a lot of people get their money from overseas and a lot of places overseas. the merging market are still doing pretty well. there is a disconnect between the stock marke
because with all the buzz over green numbers on wall street, some job numbers this week, well, they re just weak, very weak. jp morgan, the latest company announcing serious layoffs in the new year. the list is growing and growing and growing. charles payne, what s going on here? a big disconnect? a gigantic disconnect. corporate america is making a whole lot of money, a lot from outside this country and a lot in this country. the bottom line they re putting the money work to buy at that stock, to put out special dividends because they re afraid of the administration. neil: it helps their stock. it helps the stock and shareholders the bottom line, why would they make an investment in the environment where the president is saying i m he going to get more revenue from some sources and nothing has been demonized as much as big business, i would be afraid, too, a trillion and a half plus sitting outside of this country. gigantic bottom line, the stock market up, but jobs are going aw
is it possible, is it possible that some of his own decisions of part of that? anything is possible. i d like to know what those decisions would be. we found in the last quarter when the job numbers came out last week that there was a spike in job growth more than 200,000 more jobs in the last quarter than we originally thought. manufacturing is spiking, housing starts are up. there are a whole number of other indicators that you want to talk about whether the media reports them or not. the media is very good reporting the raw numbers, 7.9% undown from 7.8%, but they don t go into the details about the other indicators that show that we are on the right course. jon: so you think that the president the coverage of the economy is pretty good so far? i didn t say that. i don t think it s good number. i think we need to talk more about the other indicators. housing starts, manufacturing spikes, other areas that show that we are headed in the right direction. stock market up over 1400
these taxpayers. jamie: the chairman of the gop s victory 2012. and alan colmes. nice to see both of you. alan is there another interpretation of what the vice president said? he did backtrack after it came out. it s a gaffe. taken out of context it doesn t sound good. but it was clear to me he was referring to the notion that the policies leading up to where we are now is what caused the middle class to have problems. and they are coming out of it. if you look at the metrics. stock market up, it means 401ks are up. the price of homes are going up which is good for the homeowner. you have got a net increase in job creation. you can see the things albeit slowly are getting better.
