Montreal is expecting as many as 12,000 delegates to descend on the city for the United Nations biodiversity conference, COP15, taking place at the Palais des congrès from December 7 to 19. And Montrealers will be feeling the squeeze. Major traffic disruptions, including a metro station and road closures, will plague the area around the convention centre in December. Some will last into January.
Hundreds of police officers will take to downtown Montreal during the 15th United Nations Conférence des parties (COP15). The event, also known as the 2022 Montreal Biodiversity Conference, will take place at the Palais des Congrès from December 7 to 19. A police perimeter around the convention centre is set to disrupt movement through the area. The STM is planning several service changes as a result, including the temporary closure of Place d'Armes metro station.
After over a decade of planning and construction, the Pie-IX bus rapid transit route (BRT, or SRB in French) will finally begin operation on Monday, November 7. An STM bus crashed into a building near the corner of rues Beaubien and Clark in Montreal's Plateau-Mont-Royal borough after a collision with another vehicle early Thursday morning. In 1996, the Société de transport de Montreal launched a special service to improve safety for women travelling alone at night. The service, called Between Stops, allows STM drivers to drop lone women off get this between stops. Now, the STM has announced that the Between Stops service has expanded to all customers, including those with limited mobility.
