COCC Hosts Virtual Forum On Racism

As part of an ongoing series of discussions on race and equity, Central Oregon Community College (COCC) is hosting a virtual community forum titled "Forum on Racism: Why are We Still Talking About Racism?" together with Oregon State University-Cascades from 4-5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 24. The event is free and open to the public; attendees must register in advance. The forum will feature talks by Erika McCalpine, executive director of strategic diversity initiatives at OSU-Cascades and director of the university's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Laboratory, and Christy Walker, director of the office of diversity and inclusion at COCC. There will be time for discussion and questions after the talks. Impromptu Traffic Detail Nets Violators

The Bend Police Department would like to remind drivers to follow the speed limit, avoid distracted driving, and to wear seat belts in order to arrive safely at their destination and enjoy the warm weather. Seven traffic stops were issued during an impromptu traffic detail Sunday. Four Bend police officers conducted the enforcement detail on Northeast 3rd St. and the North Parkway, near Empire Ave. They pulled over seven vehicles and issued traffic citations for several traffic offenses, including 80 mph in a 45-mph zone and operating a motor vehicle while using a cell phone.
