A west side tavern open since 1965 will be changing hands and getting a new name this spring.
Steve’s on Bluemound, a neighborhood bar and haunt for Brewers fans at 5841 W. Blue Mound Road, will become Magoo’s on the Mound.
Mark Zierath, who owns the Red Mill in Brookfield and other establishments in whole or in part, is buying the tavern from Samuel and Steven Salaja, sons of the original owner.
Zierath is naming the tavern for his first bar, Magoo’s, formerly in West Allis. And he remembers Steve’s for another personal first.
“I’m from that neighborhood,” Zierath said. “I’ve been going in there since I was 18 years old. It was the first bar I ever went into legally to drink,” driver’s license in hand to prove he was 18, the legal drinking age at the time.
