New Bill Aims At More Efficient Spending For Homeless Healthcare
Rep. Jim Dunnigan, R-Taylorsville, has unveiled a bill that would boost funding for facilities that provide medical care for people experiencing homelessness after they leave the hospital. The money would come in the form of federal Medicaid funding and go to “residential medical respite care” facilities that have nurses on staff to help patients recover. He says the idea is to help people experiencing homelessness get well so they don’t end up immediately back in the hospital. Dunnigan said it’ll cost the state about $200,000 a year. Wyoming Corrections announces death of an inmate Tuesday

CASPER, Wyo– The Wyoming Department of Corrections announced the death of inmate Steven Michael Newport Tuesday, Dec. 22, at age 51.
According to the release, Newport died Tuesday at the Intermountain Healthcare LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. He was convicted in 2017 for unlawful manufacture or delivery of schedule II drugs.

He was born Oct. 7, 1969, in Long Beach, California.
Wyoming inmate dies while hospitalized in Salt Lake City

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) A Wyoming prison inmate died Tuesday while being treated at a hospital in Salt Lake City, the Wyoming Department of Corrections said.
The department cannot release details about what Steven Michael Newport, 51, was being treated for at Intermountain Healthcare LDS Hospital at the time of his death because health information is protected, Paul L. Martin, deputy administrator for the department’s transparency division, said. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of his death according to department policy, he said.
Newport was sentenced on 2017 to five to seven years in prison for the unlawful manufacture or delivery of drugs in northeastern Wyoming’s Campbell County. He was born in Long Beach, California.
Wyoming Inmate Dies in Salt Lake City Hospital
An inmate serving out a 5- to 7-year prison sentence died in a Salt Lake City hospital on Tuesday.
According to the Wyoming Department of Corrections, an autopsy is pending for Steven Michael Newport. He was sentenced in 2017 for unlawful manufacture or delivery of schedule II drugs.
At the time of his death, Newport was serving time at the Wyoming Honor Farm.
