When the long-awaited Queens Public Library branch at Hunters Point opened on the shoreline smack across from the United Nations in the fall of 2019, we paid a visit to the stunning building, concluding: “the structure on the East River may be a $41 million work of art by esteemed architects, but as far as we’re concerned, those architects are idiots.” They had designed a public facility that was not accessible to people with disabilities, a clear violation of federal law, the Americans with Disabilities Act.
