The American Legion was able to host their Memorial Day Program again this year after having to cancel it last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A nice crowd of community members were present as spectators and as part of the event itself. A group of students from the high school were there to perform musical selections and Superintendent Dr. Steven Heil, as well as Pastor Matthew Seegert, were guest speakers.
The St. James Honor Guard presented the colors and military honors at the end of the program.

St. James Plaindealer
On Sunday afternoon, St. James High School finally crowned its homecoming king and queen for the 2021 graduating class in queen Mara Pauling, and king Nicholas Brey.
The homecoming ceremony, typically held in the fall, was originally planned for February 14, but due to COVID-19 quarantines, the ceremony was pushed back to the 28th. It was super unnerving because we would build up all of the nerves of who is going to get it, and then it s going to happen in February, said Brey. But then it was postponed to the end of February, so it was like are we even going to get it? And now that it s finally happened and it s over now we can go and relax and not have to worry about homecoming.

The new agreement with SOCRATES will officially begin on July 1, 2021, and run through June 30, 2026. They went with a couple of different bids, and there seems to be a promise of a lot stronger system coming into the school system with some of the additions that we added, said Superintendent Dr. Steven Heil. Starting on July 1st, we should see improvement at a lower cost.
