State of the Schools: LCS plans new high school, athletic fields 2025

LANCASTER - Lancaster City Schools announced plans to construct a new high school with a tentative opening date of January 2025.  Superintendent Steve Wigton made the announcement Thursday during the Lancaster-Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce s State of the Schools address.  While details are still being finalized, Wigton said the district hopes to break ground on the new building by spring 2022.  The new building will be built on the athletic fields which are behind the career tech building currently, Wigton said. To the north, we are planning to have a parking lot, which will serve after school as the marching band practice field.

LCS refinances Junior High bond, saves nearly $500,000 LANCASTER - Lancaster City Schools announced the district has saved taxpayers nearly $500,000 after refinancing its Junior High bond. According to a media release, the district s latest effort came on March 25 when they issued just over $12.9 million of Refunding Bonds to refinance a portion of its 2016 bond issue, which bonds were originally issued to build the new junior high school buildings.  The refinancing was helped in part by historically-low interest rates in the bond market.  In the release, LCS Superintendent Steve Wigton said the refinancing shows how the district can save taxpayer money while still pursuing their goals.
