Madison County Council approves funding for prosecutor s office

Apr. 16—ANDERSON — Because of a decline in diversion money received by the county prosecutor's office, the Madison County Council has agreed to cover the shortfall. The Council on Tuesday approved $59,196 from the county's general fund to cover the budgeted salaries for 17 positions in the prosecutor's office. "The money for the salaries was coming from the diversion program funds," Prosecutor .

Jan 1, 2021 The off election year of 2021 could be critical in many ways to the future of the Democratic Party at the state level and in Madison County. The primary season is about one year away and of course the next general election doesn’t take place until November 2022. At the state level the Democratic Party hasn’t won a statewide race since Joe Donnelly was elected U.S. Senator in 2012, and the prospects are not favorable in 2022. Not only hasn’t the state Democratic Party won a race for a state elected office, it continues to shed seats in the Indiana House on a regular basis and has made little headway in the Indiana Senate.

Councilman Sumner charged with child solicitation and possession of child pornorgaphy

Steve Sumner ANDERSON Madison County Councilman Steve Sumner turned himself in on criminal charges of child solicitation and possession of child pornography. Sumner, 52, 2200 block of Poplar Street, Anderson, reported to the Madison County Jail at 6 a.m. Tuesday on the two Level 6 felony charges. During his initial court hearing, Magistrate Jason Childers set bond for Sumner at $5,000. He will have to pay 10% of the bond amount plus a fee. A no-contact order was issued in favor of a teenage girl. Sumner said he has hired Indianapolis attorney Allen Liggy to represent him. He has been unavailable for comment on the pending criminal charges.
